whats the point?

This game has an amazing concept. However, there are no instructions whatsoever, so its hard to figure out what to do.

Edit to add: So I picked Team Instinct which represents roughly 10% of all players. Consequently, Im effectively locked out of most new features, and gyms are pointless due to lack of any virtual teammates.
