App doesnt work on anything lower than iOS 10 even though its advertises 8+

Says its works with iOS 8+. It doesnt. And it hasnt since December of last year yet they havent tried to fix it or even update their app to say ios10+. Ive tried communicating with Niantic on various social media platforms but Ive never once gotten a reply or even seen this issue brought up. I know its not just me and my 6s running iOS 9, my bf also cant open the app on his 5 running iOS 8. Please address this issue.
