Watch not ready

I was excited to use Pokemon Go to log my dog walks rather than the fitness app but it doesnt stay on. While I had the watch raised up and I was looking at the face it would track my walk and work fine, once I lowered my wrist to walk normally it would end the walk after no more than 45 seconds. I know because I checked the health app to see the inputs. It wouldnt tell me it was ending it, just nothing. I ended up just using the fitness app and holding my phone with Pokemon Go open like normal.
